Sherbrooke, October 15, 2025 — Ecofilter Tek, a Sherbrooke-based startup developing regenerable ion exchange resins and self-cleaning membranes for the water treatment and dairy sectors, has successfully raised an oversubscribed $950,000 pre-seed round. The round was co-led by Cycle H2O and Cycle Momentum, via its Origo investment matching program, with participation from Innovobot IRV Fund.

About Ecofilter Tek’s Technology

Ecofilter Tek’s Charge-Switching Polymer Technology marks a breakthrough in sustainable water filtration. Integrated into its AmphoRes (ion exchange resin) product, it enables safe, on-site resin regeneration, eliminating the need for hazardous chemicals or off-site disposal. This innovation reduces operational costs and environmental impact by minimizing chemical use, waste generation, and transportation requirements. Applied into its AmphoPoly (membrane) product, the technology offers enhanced performance through more efficient contaminant removal and reduced membrane fouling.

PFAS Removal: A Critical Application

A key application of Ecofilter Tek’s technology is the removal of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in drinking water. PFAS are a family of thousands of man-made chemicals characterized by strong carbon–fluorine bonds, which make them extremely persistent in the environment and in the human body, earning them the nickname “forever chemicals”. These contaminants pose serious health and environmental risks, and their effective treatment has become a global priority. Ecofilter Tek’s process captures PFAS without generating landfill waste, unlike other technologies such as single-use resins or Granular Activated Carbon systems. When paired with PFAS destruction technologies, it enables complete end-of-life elimination of these persistent pollutants, offering a truly sustainable path toward cleaner, safer water.

“This funding represents a significant milestone for the Ecofilter Tek team, reflecting the strong market traction we’ve built with key stakeholders across the U.S., Europe, and Canada,” said Farhad Farnia, CEO of Ecofilter Tek. “We are excited to have Cycle H2O, Cycle Momentum’s Origo investment matching program and Innovobot join our mission to bring sustainable, high-performance filtration technologies to market. With their support, we’ll embark in a crucial phase in Ecofilter Tek’s commercialization and growth: scaling up production, obtaining required certifications, and launching real-world pilot projects with our industrial and municipal partners.”

“We’re proud to support Ecofilter Tek in advancing an innovative water treatment technology that will make PFAS removal more efficient and less wasteful. We also see strong potential for their filtration solutions to address other critical water challenges across industries.” said Andrée-Lise Méthot, Founder and Managing Partner of Cycle Capital. “We’re especially pleased that Cycle H2O, under Simon Olivier’s leadership, co-led this round alongside Cycle Momentum’s Origo matching program, and to welcome Innovobot to the syndicate. This funding will enable Ecofilter Tek to meet several key milestones to bring this critical solution to market.”

“Ecofilter Tek is a strong example of how deep-tech innovation can deliver both environmental impact and industrial performance,” said Jennifer McDonald, Senior Vice President, Investments at Cycle Momentum. “Their approach to circular filtration solutions addresses critical challenges in water and wastewater management, aligning perfectly with our mission to accelerate technologies that contribute to a more sustainable future.”
