ZONE AGTECH AND CYCLE MOMENTUM, IN COLLABORATION WITH BIOENTERPRISE CORPORATION, ANNOUNCE THE 3rd EDITION OF THE QUEBEC ACCELERATION PROGRAM 100% DEDICATED TO AGTECH

Montreal, October 20, 2022 – In partnership with Zone Agtech and Bioenterprise Corporation, Cycle Momentum is currently recruiting for the Cycle Momentum Agtech Acceleration Program – powered by Zone Agtech. This acceleration program is 100% dedicated to commercializing innovative agricultural technologies in Quebec. This initiative aims to advance the development of concrete solutions that reduce the Agtech sector’s environmental footprint, help agricultural producers adapt to climate change and support food autonomy in Quebec in order to accelerate the province’s transition towards a greener, more efficient, and sustainable economy.

As part of the Cycle Momentum Agtech Acceleration Program – powered by Zone Agtech, five seed-stage enterprises with innovative agricultural technologies will benefit from various forms of support, including access to agricultural resources required to commercialize their technology. This immersive program will support the commercialization of Agtech by focusing on the quality of innovation, demonstration in an operational environment with pilot partners, and financing opportunities.

Companies are invited to apply to the Cycle Momentum Agtech Acceleration Program – powered by Zone Agtech starting today, until December 12th, 2022. Activities for this second cohort will begin at the end of January 2023. Powered by Zone Agtech, this program is designed for innovative agricultural companies with solutions to reduce GHGs, increase food autonomy and/or promote agricultural adaptation to climate change.

Prospective applicants must also be located in the Zone Agtech or must commit to relocating there by the end of the program.

This initiative is part of a three-year partnership (2020-2023) between Zone Agtech, Bioenterprise Corporation, and Cycle Momentum. Thanks to an investment of $570,000, this alliance is working to accelerate the development of innovative agricultural technologies in Quebec along with  supporting the mission of Zone Agtech.

Cycle Momentum kicked off its Fall Cleantech Accelerator cohort on October 4, 2022. As part of the cohort, six new teams began collaborating with Cycle Momentum’s 30+ mentors, entrepreneurs-in-residence and industry experts to develop their business model, marketing strategy, and financing plans.

In recent months. Gamotech has partnered with municipal governments, such as the cities of Levis, Sainte-Julie and l’Assomption, to streamline their efforts to decarbonise construction and maintenance work.

Green Graphite Tech  – Green Chemistry 

Green Graphite Technologies aims to commercialize the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly sustainable process to transform natural flake graphite into high purity lithium-ion battery (LiB) grade graphite. Their team has developed GraphPure™ to remove impurities from NFG and bring to market high purity graphite. To develop GraphPure™, Green Graphite Technologies has partnered with leading NFG Mining End users, carbon manufacturers and technical collaborators and is receiving support from both Sustainable Development Technology Canada and Investissement Québec.

Aeroport AI – Industry 4.0 

Aeroport AI uses computer vision and deep learning to monitor and analyze aircraft ground operations through ramp and aerobridge cameras to optimize and automate apron management. Based in Montreal, Aeroport AI aims to leverage real-time and structured data to build tools that decrease airside operation delays, improve safety and reduce CO2 emissions.

LATYS Intelligence – Industry 4.0 

LATYS Intelligence uses cutting-edge technology to change how wireless networks are designed. By using space as a resource in the network architecture, LATYS builds robust and efficient wireless infrastructure to enable the deployment of the Industrial Internet of Things and 5G communication systems. In April 2022, LATYS Intelligence received Sustainable Development Technology Canada’s seed grant to develop the LATYS Autonomous Intelligent Repeater (AIR). LATYS Intelligence has also partnered with TandemLaunch Inc., University of Toronto, and Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique to develop their technology.

RegenEAU – Urban Tech 

RegenEAU improves energy efficiency and decarbonization solutions for the multi-dwelling and commercial building sectors. By leveraging existing technologies and best business practices, RegenEAU’s technology recuperates heat from wastewater to reduce the building’s energy consumption and produce hot water at a lower cost.

Oxia Initiative – Industry 4.0

Supporting the clean tech sector contributes to economic development in Quebec’s regions. Cascades and Cycle Momentum launch an open-innovation partnership

“The Clean Energy Challenge” initiates the search for heat generation technologies that can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Montreal, April 28, 2022 – Cascades, a leader in recovery, hygiene and sustainable packaging solutions, and Cycle Momentum, startup accelerator and innovation engine in cleantech, are joining forces to launch an open innovation program to find and deploy heat generation technologies that will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emitted from pulp and paper production.

Today, Cycle Momentum and Cascades are calling for applications from innovative companies developing clean energy and heat generation solutions. The solutions sought include the use of renewable electricity or renewable natural gas, green hydrogen, waste materials, biomass, geothermal energy or solar energy. The selected companies will be supported by Cycle Momentum and Cascades in developing and implementing their solution. One of them will also have the opportunity to set up a pilot project and receive financial support.

Cascades, a pioneer in the circular economy, offers hygiene and packaging products made mainly from recycled materials. While sustainable development has been in the company’s DNA since its inception, it is continuously striving to take concrete actions to remain ever more sustainable, innovative and value-generating.

Cascades revealed its fourth sustainable development plan in 2021. Using 2019 as a base year, Cascades aims to reduce GHG emissions from its mills (paper manufacturing plants) by 38.7% and GHG emissions from its other activities (paper conversion plants, among others) by 27.5% by 2030.

L’Assomption RMC, March 3rd, 2022 – In their continued commitment to boost the commercialization of clean agricultural technologies within the province to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapt to climate change, the Zone Agtech and Cycle Momentum today announce the five startups that will undergo an intensive and immersive 16-week long mentoring program as part of the Cycle Momentum Acceleration: Agtech program, powered by the Zone Agtech.

These five companies were selected following the consideration of a panel of experts and major players in the province’s agricultural, agtech and cleantech ecosystem. The jury was mandated to assess the applications based on the advancement and relevance of the proposed technologies to the agriculture and agri-food sector, the leadership abilities of the management team, and the expected outcomes in reducing ESG and agricultural adaptation in a changing climate.

With access to an acceleration program entirely dedicated to the agtech industry, the selected companies will benefit from several services offered by the Zone Agtech, Cycle Momentum and the pan-Canadian Engine network, as well as proximity to the target market, various forms of support and specialized training offered by mentors, experts and leaders in their field of expertise. One of the selected companies may also be entitled to a grant of up to $5,000 to establish itself in the heart of Quebec’s agtech ecosystem : the Zone Agtech.

In addition to reducing GHG emissions and adjusting to climate change, the solutions proposed by the 2nd cohort are innovative, with the potential to increase the agricultural sector’s productivity by improving its access to advanced technologies for controlled environments, precision agriculture and agriculture robotization adapted to remote regions and Quebec’s context.

Manuelle Côté joins Cycle Momentum

Cycle Capital welcomes Manuelle Côté to the team. As Project Manager, Communications & Marketing, she will lead Communications & Marketing efforts across the Cycle Capital platform.

Prior to joining Cycle Capital, Manuelle worked as a venture manager at the Creative Destruction Lab, a seed-stage program for massively scalable, science-based companies. She worked closely with startups that leverage artificial intelligence and data science to solve problems along supply chains.

Manuelle spent most of her early career dividing her time between Calgary, Vancouver, and Mountain View while working in tech. She worked for McGraw-Hill, a global educational publisher and learning tech company, before joining the leadership team at Filld, a VC-backed fuel startup based in Silicon Valley, in a marketing & partnership role.

Manuelle studied Public Relations at the University of Calgary and Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Stanford University before completing an MBA from HEC Montréal, where she received a leadership scholarship for her work on diversity and sustainability in organizations.

Luc Giguère joins Cycle Momentum’s Board of Directors

Montreal, January 27, 2022 – Cycle Momentum – a cleantech an accelerator and open innovation platform – announces the appointment of Luc Giguère as Board Member. He will also act as a mentor to some of the companies in the accelerator programmes.

Luc Giguère is a serial entrepreneur, turnaround specialist and executive with 30 years of experience in the technology field. He has started or helped start over 40 companies since launching Absolu Technologies in 1991, the first self-service credit card payment system in Canada. In 1997, the company changed its name to telweb and was subsequently sold for $100 million to Schlumberger Industries (NYSE:SLB) in January 2000.

After obtaining an MBA, a joint degree from the London School of Economics, HEC Paris and New York University, he started Oh! Airlines, an airline that offered first class, non-stop service at business rates from London-Stansted. In parallel, he also managed the Planet 31 Investments Inc. fund, through which he made investments in various companies including Technocap, Lipso (sold to Trans-Continental GTC), T-Rex Motosport and Yotta-Yotta (sold to EMC2, sold to Dell).

In 2016, he joined the team at Centech, ETS’s technology venture incubator, where he participated in its re-launch. Centech is now recognized by UBI-Global as one of the top 10 Accelerators and one of the top 20 University-based Incubators in the world.

In the summer of 2021, Luc joined the Technology and Innovation division of the Nati onal Bank of Canada as Director of Start-Ups where he represents the bank in various accelerators and incubators, and offers the bank’s multiple financial products to growing technology companies.
